There is no prescribed form of the Competition for seeking consent of your Department.  Please adopt the form of your Department, if available, or seek consent with your supervisor direct.    There is no need to prove that your consent has been sought.    Pursuant to clause 4.7(7) and Note 7 of Annex 1 of the Competition Document, by registering for the Competition, Participants are deemed to have obtained the necessary consent from their offices or employers for participating in the Competition.

(1)  Please follow the alignment of the proposed hiking trail as shown on Annex 5 Site Plan of the Competition Document.

(2)  It is not necessary to design a canopy-covered viewpoint / platform for the possible photos taking points.  Participants may choose to do so or not to do so.  However, please note the design requirements as stated in clause 2.3 of the Competition Document, in particular clause 2.3(1)(a) that the Entry design should be compatible with the natural countryside setting and in harmony with the scenic natural environment.

(3)  It is up to Participants to design. Please note the design requirements as stated in clause 2.3 of the Competition Document, in particular clause 2.3(1)(a). Particular attention shall also be drawn to clause 2.3(2)(b) that the construction of the Viewing Platform shall not involve piling works. Site formation, anchor structure and any kind of disturbance to the existing site profile shall be minimised.

(4)  It is not necessary to use some of the existing structures on the trail. Participants may choose to use or not to use them.   However, the existing structures are not designed to take additional loading on them.

The briefing session is not available for viewing again.  For site visit, you may wish to make one on your own.   Public transport means like taxi and minibus are available for access to the entrance of the hiking trail near East Dam.

Building structure is allowed for the design of the Viewing Platform.   It is not necessary to provide sheltered space for the design.   Participants may choose to design a sheltered space or just a landscape platform.   However, please note clause 2.3 of the Competition Document for design requirements of the Competition, in particular clause 2.3(1)(a) (see Question no. 8(2)) and clause 2.3(2) for design requirements concerning the Viewing Platform.  Particular attention shall also be drawn to clause 2.3(2)(b) that the construction of the Viewing Platform shall not involve piling works.  Site formation, anchor structure and any kind of disturbance to the existing site profile shall be minimised.

(1) No, the dimensions of the Viewing Platform and entrance feature should be suitable for their purposes.  Please also refer to clause 2.3(2)(a) of the Competition Document.  The Viewing Platform should be designed with optimal dimension for accommodating about 25 people at the same time with incorporation of the design principles as far as practicable as stated in 2.3(2)(a)(i) to (iv).

(2) Please refer to clause 2.3(2)(b) of the Competition Document. The construction of the Viewing Platform shall not involve piling works.  Site formation, anchor structure and any kind of disturbance to the existing site profile shall be minimised.

(3) Please refer to the responses given under Question nos. 8(2) and 10 above. Please also note the design requirements as set out in clause 2.3 of the Competition Document.

(4) It is not necessary to construct the Viewing Platform on top of the existing concrete structures. Participants may choose to use or not to use them.   Please refer to the responses to Question no. 8(4).   Please also note the design requirements as set out in clause 2.3 of the Competition Document.

(1) The design of the viewing platform shall comply with relevant statutory requirements.

(2) It is not necessary to anchor the Viewing Platform to the existing aerial photo   control point.   Participants may choose to use or not to use the control point.   However, the existing structure is not designed to take additional loading on it.    Please refer to response to Question nos. 8(4) and 11(4).   Please also note the design requirements as set out in clause 2.3 of the Competition Document.

(3) The appearance and location of the new aerial photo control point should be designed as per the design requirements as set out in clause no. 2.3(c) of the Competition Document.

(4) Yes, anchor bolts may be fixed on the terrain.   Please note the design requirements of the Viewing Platform as set out in clause 2.3(2), in particular clause 2.3(2)(b).  As required, the construction of the Viewing Platform shall not involve piling works.  Site formation, anchor structure and any kind of disturbance to the existing site profile shall be minimised.

(5) No, the entrance feature shall not use piling, similar to the design requirements for the Viewing Platform.   Please also note clause no. 2.3(e) that the Entry design should facilitate construction field operations with maximum efficiency.  It is desirable that the major structural components of the new Viewing Platform and hiking trail supporting facilities should be designed for pre-fabrication off-site and assembly on site.

(6) The Viewing Platform should provide a safe place on the headland of Fa Shan suitable for visitors’ appreciation and enjoyment of the breathtaking scene of Po Pin Chau characterised by the magnificent world class hexagonal volcanic columnar rocks landscape.   The photo taking points should be designed for enhancement of visitors’ experience hiking towards East Dam of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and Kim Chu Wan through admiration and enjoyment of the scenery of coastal landscape and geological features walking along the proposed hiking trail.    Please also refer to clause 1.2 and clause 1.3 of the Competition Document for the background, the objectives and theme of the Competition.
