Vista Trilogy

<the wilderness>

It has no plan.
It came naturally.
It came into being because of natural circumstances.

<the landscape of mankind>

Men see and act, consciously or unconsciously.
Men left traces.
Through numerous decisions, Men created the footpath.

<extension of traces>

We extend the traces on the crafted land.
We add dot by dot, lightly, and weave into a line of memories.
We make scenes to better the spectacle.

<the nature>

Along the traces everything connects and co-exists.
Along the traces everything is still resilient.
Along the traces every grass grows as usual.
Along the traces everyone in harmonic presence.

Design Considerations
Locations: Only When Essential and Necessary

  1. Locations to observe different intrinsic characteristics in the environment: Spots including Hilltop, Valley, Cliffside worth spending time for embracing the natural beauty.
  1. Where an architecture could facilitate appreciation of stunning scenery in a safe manner: Sceneries from dangerous cliffside are stunning and often attract hikers to take considerable risk to capture magnificent views. A protected projecting platform allows hikers to enjoy in safety.
  1. Where a resting break is preferable: The three photo-taking points selected are 250m apart in general, without excessive provision. This adheres to general hiking recommendation: to take a 5-minute break every 30 minutes, or after a lengthy continuous uphill or downhill (60-90m) motion.
  1. Where directional advice is preferred: Among existing trail routes, some are riskier and/or full of bushes. Directional guides could inform hikers with proper warning.

 Forms: Humble and Site-specific

  1. Humble extrusions and stairs follow the relief, and integrate well with existing routes and natural environment.
  2. Understated elegant round platforms are non-directional which allow hikers to enjoy and rest with maximum exposure to views around and explore spectacular coastal landscape and geological features.
  3. Size of structures is kept to a minimum, 1)to cater for existing crowd of hikers only; 2)least material and resources for sustainability.


Entrance Plaza marks the start-point with a noticeable welcoming sculpture. A photogenic spot with information board for assembly of hikers.

Viewing Platform offers panoramic viewing angles with its 3-tier extruded platforms. It covers popular spots beyond the Aerial Photo Control Point and provides safe platforms and stairs with railings.

Three Photo-taking Points showcase sites of geological importance and spectacular views. It serves as a directional guide with resting facilities.

Pathway and Signage: Subtle knee-height railings to guide the direction, only when way-finding is difficult.

Materials: Porous and Durable
Low-maintenance porous Steel Plates and Wire Mesh allow vegetation to grow beneath and beside, in harmony with natural environment. Natural and no toxic ingredients to be released over years. Prefabricated and easy to assemble. Partial replacement could be easy without dismantling the whole structure.

Delivery by helicopter meaning no clearance of vegetation along the whole trail of 960m for construction carts to move materials along, saving 1920sqm vegetation and undisturbed soil.

Minimal disturbance to the nature.

Cost Effective and Sustainable: An estimated 20 flights of helicopters required. Such transportation cost is comparable to the cost of clearance of vegetation and extra man-days required, let alone the disturbance to the natural trail.

入口廣場 放置象徵六角柱石的藝術裝置並翻新部分扶手,帶來簡單而嶄新的體驗。
觀景台 為欣賞「香港之心」及破邊州而建造懸臂於崖外而不同高度觀景台,方便遊人觀景,大大減低於崖邊拍照的風險。
拍照位 以最小滋擾原則設計,只於簡單設施上略加指示牌及護欄。指示牌及設施皆低於1.2米,以免影響觀景。
物料 金屬質輕通透,如鐵絲網地台與樓梯、薄片欄杆等,方便搬運。小型建築略高於地面,即使做了蹊徑或平台亦不影響附近及下方的自然生態發展,創造出與自然調和的設計。
預製件 平台及蹊徑等略高於地面,少受地形限制,可於工廠生產預製件再運到現場作簡單安裝。
運輸 因山形及園林等阻礙,設計傾向以直昇機吊運至現場直接安裝。因此每件預製件重量控制至一噸或以下,以金屬作為主材料較為適宜。直昇機搬運減少對環境破壞,場地保護、還原園林等費用亦較低。
